This math problem looks ridiculously easy…
But there’s a small trap hiding in the middle.
Take a look:
40 + 40 × 0 + 1 = ?
And you have three choices:

Don’t rush to answer!
A lot of people see the numbers and start calculating from left to right. That’s exactly where the trick comes in.
THE CHALLENGE
Before you choose an answer, remember one simple rule:
Multiplication comes before addition.
So the first thing you need to calculate is:
40 × 0 = 0
Now replace it in the original equation:
40 + 0 + 1
Then simply work from left to right:
40 + 0 + 1 = 41
THE CORRECT ANSWER
41
The tempting answer 1 comes from adding 40 + 40 first and then multiplying by 0 — but that’s not the correct order of operations.
And 82 comes from ignoring the multiplication by zero altogether.
So the key isn’t really the calculation…
It’s whether you remember the order of operations!
